Attendance

St John the Baptist C of E Primary School has attendance targets set by the government each year. All schools are expected to achieve an average of 95% every academic year. The government does not take into account any reasons for a child to be absent from school.

If your child is unwell, please let the school know as soon as possible on the first day of absence. We will attempt to contact you if your child is not in school and we have not had a reason for absence, it is therefore essential that we have an up to date number on which to contact you.

Ways to let us know if your child is ill -

1. Telephone the school office on 01903 873072 (The office is staffed from 8.30 am) giving the reason for your child’s absence.

2. You can leave a message on the school answerphone before 8.30 am.

3. Email the school at office@stjbps.co.uk

4. Children who have suffered from sickness and diarrhoea should not return to school until 48 hours have elapsed after the last bout.

Requests for absence during school time e.g. holiday, sporting activities, special family occasions, should be made via the school office who will give you a ‘Request for absence from learning in school time’ form. Forms must be completed and returned to the school office before the beginning of any absence that is requested. (See Attendance Policy for full details)
